Nelson L. Association Board Meeting Minutes, Oct. 17, 2022


The meeting was opened promptly at 6:31 pm by President Rick Lindner.
Members present: Harold Burton, Rick Lindner, Gordy Christians, Tom LeMay, John Welter, Jeff Hanson, Mike Hallum, Glenn Rolloff, and Steve Bilitz.

Board meeting minutes from Aug. 1, 2022 were readtop via email. MOTION: to approve minutes. Passed.

Treasurer’s Report: The Money Market account has $27, 941 and the checking account has $21, 280. The annual picnic expenses were $1, 702. The raffle expenses totaled $864, while revenue was $2, 561. We now have 268 members in the Association.
Fall Newsletter: Kim Simonson is taking over the Newsletter publishing duties. The Newsletter will be sent out by the end of October.
2023 High School Scholarship: MOTION: to continue the scholarship for 2023 at $1, 000. Passed.

Buoy Change-over: The buoy changes were made during October. Lots of help was available. This year we will push the buoy markers under the ice.

Clean Boats Clean Waters grant request: The CBCW grant application has been approved.

Beach Report: This season the beach was used primarily by boaters. There was very little litter.

Donation to Civil Air Patrol: We used their tables and chairs for the annual picnic. MOTION: To donate $250 to the Civil Air Patrol. Passed.

Grooming Snow Trails on Nelson Lake: A discussion came regarding whether or not we should pay Kevin Harvey for grooming the snow trails on the lake. MOTION: to pay the Hayward Snow Meds $500 for snow trail grooming on Nelson L. Passed. We encourage the Nelson L. Resort Assoc. to also contribute $500 for Kevin’s work.

Other items: 1) At the next annual picnic, we will move the minnow races to an easier to reach location. 2) Discussion on a Nelson L. Board members/spouses appreciation night at Flat Creek on Nov. 8, 2022. More info to come. 3) NLA submitted a letter to the Township asking that they include funds for the CBCW and pontoon insurance into their 2023 budget. 4) The Township will be requesting funds in the future for the construction of a playground and blacktop around the Park’s pavilion.
