Michelle Tripp will return to the position of Vice-President. Finally, Neil Ellis will become our newest Treasurer.
Lenroot Township Report: Township clerk, Robert Ubbelohde, will not run again when his term ends in April, 2027. It’s been difficult to find a replacement for this important position. A search for eligible candidates will begin this Summer. A new plow truck will be in service this Summer. All town road equipment is now up to date except for the loader. Blacktop projects approved for this Summer include, Dam Road, Erickson Road, a portion of Norway Point Road, and a portion of Nelson L. Road. Also, blacktop will be installed on the Gerlach boat landing parking lot. Two new steel boat/fishing docks were installed at the Nelson Lake Park, purchased by the Nelson L. Resort Association using money through the 2% short-term rental town’s accommodation tax.
Door Prizes: were given to Al Switzer and Brent Oja.
Nelson Lake has been chosen as the site or the Fishing Has No Boundaries for Vets event on Sept. 16-17, 2026 starting at the Nelson Lake Dam Park. FHNB is looking for volunteers to help them pull this event off. Check their website for more details.
Speakers:
JOHN RICHTER, the topic of wake surfing. Sediments are riled up down to about 20 ft from wake surfing boats. This is called downward propwash. Some invasive species can be transferred from lake to lake from boat ballast systems that cannot fully empty. There were lots of good ideas and information, and his presentation was well received.
DAVE NEUSWANGER, the topic of Nelson L. Fisheries. The first DNR-Fisheries Plan for Nelson Lake was developed in 2003. The Minong Flowage is quite similar to Nelson L. This flowage has a very good walleye population. Adult walleyes are the best predator for eating juvenile bluegills and crappies. Pike can’t do the job that walleyes do. Nelson Lake has more LM Bass than the Minong Flowage. Minong Flowage is a very good walleye lake, while Nelson Lake is now a very good LM bass lake.
Question and Answer time: Can the Township ban wake surfing? Yes, it can be done; however, enforcement is quite difficult. There was a discussion on banning wake surfing activities on Nelson Lake. MOTION: That the Nelson L. Association work with the Lenroot Township Board on an ordinance prohibiting wake surfing activity on Nelson Lake. Note: this motion is not intended to ban wake boats. Motion passed.
There was no further business.
Respectfully submitted, Steve Bilitz, Secretary
